LEGALISATION
Legalisation by apostille
Documents issued by the authorities of Hong Kong or Macao need a legalisation by apostille before they can be used in Belgium or at the Consulate-General of Belgium.
In Hong Kong the apostille service is organised by the High Court, and in Macau by the Direcção dos Serviços de Assuntos de Justiça.

Since April 3rd, 2024, any citizen with an electronic identity card (eID) can access the public eLegalization site in order to make requests for apostille and legalisation of various documents.
Which documents can be requested and submitted for legalisation/apostille?
- Electronic documents/certificates from the population register present on My FILE
- Civil status documents drawn up from March 31st, 2019 and those already migrated to the Civil Status Documents Database (BAEC)
The documents are available in different formats (copy, extract, multilingual Vienna Convention extract)
Please note: if a document has not yet been migrated to the BAEC, you will first have to request the migration of the document either from your municipality or your career consulate for registration in the population register, or from the municipality or the career consulate which drew up the original paper document.
It is the municipality or the career consular post which has drawn up the original act which will carry our the migration into the BAEC.
Processing the request
The submitted request is processed within 24 hours (during working days).
Once the file has been processed, you will receive an electronic payment request by email.
Your legalised/apostilled document will be available directly on LegalWeb once payment has been made.
TRANSLATION
If you are looking for a translator based in Belgium - a sworn translation is always signed with a scan of the signature and the digital signature of the translator. They don’t require an apostille for use inside Belgium. Sworn translations for use outside Belgium can be apostilled online by FPS Foreign Affairs, which has the specimen of their signatures.
Please refer to this website for more details: JustSearch
If you are looking for a translator based in Hong Kong - most documents that are used at the Consulate General (visa application, application of nationality,…) that are not in Dutch, French, or German need to be translated into one of these languages first. If you are in doubt whether a translation is required please contact the Consulate General first.
This list of translators below is for your reference only. You are free to contact any sworn translator of your choice.
